Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell

About the Cell

The IPR Cell at Mar Ephraem College of Engineering and Technology was established with a vision to cultivate a culture of innovation, creativity, and legal awareness regarding intellectual property among students, faculty, and researchers. It serves as a platform to educate and guide innovators in identifying, protecting, and commercializing their intellectual property. The Cell also acts as a bridge between the creators and legal frameworks, facilitating patent filing and other forms of IP protection.

To foster a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and legal empowerment by promoting awareness, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property among the academic and research community.


Key Focus Areas

Creating awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs.

Supporting innovators in drafting and filing patent applications.

Promoting research and innovation that can lead to potential IP generation.

Conducting workshops, seminars, and training programs on IPR.

Facilitating collaborations with patent attorneys and IP professionals.


Why It Was Established

The IPR Cell was established to bridge the gap between innovation and legal protection. With increasing research outputs and student innovations, the need to safeguard creative ideas became crucial. The Cell ensures that valuable intellectual contributions from the institution are recognized, protected, and utilized effectively, while also instilling legal and ethical awareness related to intellectual property among budding technocrats.


Key Focus Areas

To create awareness among faculty, students, and research scholars about various forms of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and their importance in protecting innovation.

To support and guide inventors in identifying patentable ideas, drafting, and filing applications for patents, copyrights, trademarks, and designs.

To promote a culture of innovation and research that leads to the generation of novel, socially impactful, and commercially viable intellectual property.

To facilitate workshops, seminars, and training programs on IPR laws, patent drafting, technology transfer, and commercialization.

To establish collaborations with national and international IPR offices, legal experts, and industry partners to ensure effective IP management and protection.

To assist in the commercialization of technologies and innovations developed within the institution through licensing and startup facilitation.

To maintain a database of all intellectual property filed and granted under the institution for reference, benchmarking, and institutional ranking.
